Its summer and so for that reason Ill break from my insistence on pragmatic advice and write on a topic you might consider fluff. Yet its the biggest mistake I see small business owners make, including me. We have no patience. I think that its a given that a requirement for being an entrepreneur is to have a low grade case of ADD, or in my case, ADHD with an emphasis on the H. And in marketing, that will kill you.

I cant tell you how many times a client tries something and when there are no immediate results says “Well that doesnt work.” Its like lifting weights one day and expecting that tricep cut to develop overnight. Im not suggesting that we all go out and spend a bajillion dollars on advertising during American Idol. But I do think that in order for your PR and marketing tactics to work you have to learn to wait a bit. Here are a few tips to use to figure out if youre too impatient.

1. Are you measuring your campaign results by the number of orders youre getting off each initiative? In a word, DONT. Look at your website hits instead, or the traffic in your store. Whats the first step toward buying your product or service? Do they request a brochure? Do they visit the website? Measure by those “first steps” in the short term.

2. Are you changing your marketing strategy on a weekly or monthly basis? WRONG. You had better have confidence in your strategy (or your consultant) from the start. Nothing works if you dont believe in it 100% from the beginning. Switching around what youre doing on a constant basis and youll end up running circles.

3. Are you relying on only one outreach method? It may work now, but it will stop working eventually. Or youll end up trying one thing after another. BLEND your messaging channels. If youre doing radio, connect it to an online promotion as well. Trying guerilla marketing? Make sure youve got some PR working in conjunction with those “on the ground” techniques.

Particularly in the online world, patience is the key to success. Jay Conrad Levinson, the founder of Guerilla Marketing, believes that patience is the most important characteristic of successful entrepreneurs. Be confident in your approach. Measure it wisely. And then, like that old farmer in the field, be patient and watch the seeds of your marketing work grow.

Entrepreneurs perceive potentials and build on them by directing his or her resources to achieve pre-determined goals. The human resource is of importance because it is in born in all. It manifest as talents and deep seated aspirations. The material resource is secondary.

The featuers of Entrepreneurs are numerous but lefts nose dive into it. Entrepreneurs have a high level of business consciousness. They can discern between assets and liabilities. They can see business potentials when they get close to one. Their eyes and mind can see potentials even when clothed in failures. In addition, they are ready ti indulge in moderate calculated risks because they do a through base line study of their potential business ideal. These base line studies give them a clear picture if the target market, the dos and don’ts the requirements and the legal impediments.They make sound business judgement before they dive into any business venture.

Entrepreneurs are dynamic and hard working. They do not dive into business because it is in vogue or it has made their next door friend millionaires. They nourish their idea with creative innovations thus making it unique. They have superb abilities in allocating time, resources and task.

Remember, Entrepreneurs do not dive into business ventures. Like I said above, the world is awash with entrepreneurs. Subsequently, study yourself before you throw in yor material into any venture if not you would close shop few months after.

Home based business, online business, MLM or if you are in direct sales, you have to be goal oriented to be successful. If you are new or experienced, without a goal the chances are you will be part of the 97% of entrepreneurs that will fail this year. Knowing how to set up your goals, how to break them down will play a major part of all entrepreneur success.

If you are new, you goal may be to quit your job or make enough money so your spouse can stay home. If you are experienced, you goal might be to win a major competition within your organization. Either way, the 1st step is to establish your main goal. The reason is we will work from the top to the bottom to establish a plan of action to achieve your goals.

For the sake of this article, we will use the new entrepreneur as an example. So lets you make $4,000 a month at your current job. To replace your income, you will need to make around $3,500 monthly with your online business. So write $3,500 at the top of a board or a blank piece of paper.

Next we need to figure out how many sales you need to make to create a $3,500 income. So lets say the average sale with your business is $100 and your commission for each sale is $50. So to make $3,500, you need make 70 sales each month which would equal $7,000 in sales and $3,500 in income. Write on your board 70 sales below your main goal.

After that we need to establish how many leads every month you will need to make 70 sales. You find out that your business model average is that you make a sale for every 10 leads (this is just an example) so you will need 700 leads to make $7,000 in sales. Write on your board 700 leads monthly below your monthly sales.

The last step is to breakdown the number of monthly leads into a daily number of leads. So if you need 700 leads every month, than you need 23.3 leads per day. Write 23.3 leads on your board below your monthly leads.

Work with the daily number, celebrate every time you achieve you daily goal with a small reward. If you meet your daily goal, you will meet your monthly goal and first thing you will know is that you will hand your letter of resignation to your boss with a big smile on your face. One last advice, keep your goals very visible to you at all time. Make sure you can see them every day and dont make too much fun of your boss when you quit.

When we talk of management education, we are basically referring to shaping up the students, aimed towards developing their competency and capability either as a manager fit to join an organization and help it to grow or as entrepreneur, to establish and grow ones own business. This capability does not come from possessing a management diploma or degree, but also requires developing in the students the will and skill to contribute for self sustenance and nation building. Presently it is seen, that there is a wide gap existing between the type of management education imparted in MBA colleges and what is there in real life management in business organizations. In order to make management education more realistic and useful for the industry, certain key areas need to be identified. These could be:-

(a)Benchmarking quality management education to create an enduring quality managers and entrepreneurs.
(b)Bring in professionalism in management education.
(c)Adequacy of qualified and competent faculty members, proper infrastructure, support facilities and regular updating of curriculum.

Benchmarking Quality Management Education

Benchmarking with the top management colleges inspires an institute to produce quality managers. Management education needs to include knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) that are needed today and that will be needed tomorrow by the industry. The mission of management education should be to become innovative and creative. The objectives of benchmarking should be to:-
Make own students employable in industry.

In order install quality in management education in India, the AICTE and MBA colleges / universities in the country should focus on the following issues:-
Quality of faculty.
Infrastructure development.
Accountability of management institutes.
Values and ethics.

Preparing yourself to become an entrepreneur means becoming a whole person. This means preparing yourself spiritually to be an entrepreneur as well as financially and mentally.

Youre not going to be able to operate a business unless youre a whole person, and you cant be a whole person unless youre spiritual. And this means being spiritual according to your own definition of the word.

One definition of spirituality is a sensitivity to, or concern with, non-material values, as distinguished from material concerns. Perhaps you consider yourself spiritual in this sense.

Or, maybe you feel that worshiping and believing in a higher power makes you a spiritual person. Just as the definition of success is different for each person, so is the meaning of being spiritual but it is something that will help all of us on our journey.

For me, being spiritual means having a living, loving relationship with God the heavenly Father, in with, and through His Son, Jesus Christ, by way of the power of the Holy Spirit. It is the essence of this spiritual relationship which helps me find my whole self.

When youre a whole person, your business will click, and you will click. If you arent a whole person if you ignore your spiritual dimension both your business and your personal life will be incomplete.

Preparing yourself socially to be an entrepreneur means understanding how your business fits into the larger context of your life. You have to remember that you have family and friends, and have to keep them informed of your plans and goals, and involve them in your business decisions.

When the people around you have bought into what you want to do, youll receive strength and support from them, which will speed you to your success.

Social preparation also means understanding that there is a social side to business. Make it a point to get involved in at least one business organization in your area. Whether you join the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, the Lions Club or some other type of business organization, you will experience social growth, a well as the having the means to participate in many good networking opportunities.

Getting collected is a natural outgrowth of getting comfortable. Once you have made all your preparations and have actually started doing business, its your approach thats going to define your business.

If youve already gotten comfortable with an ever changing business, youll be able to remain collected and professional, calm and self-possessed as an entrepreneur.

Even though I teach ’em, I don’t get why we have to have courses in public speaking. You’ve been speaking since you were 2. You were walking since you were 2 also. We don’t have courses in Public Walking!

Remember that the corporate guy in the 3 piece suit stops off for a beer on the way home from work just like everyone else. And I guarantee he’s not speaking corporate mumbo jumbo to the bartender or to his buddies when he’s watching the big game.

If you’re preparing a speech and want to test it out, ask a kid. Kids have a natural immunity to professionalitis. Don’t use any words with your business prospects that you couldn’t use with a bright 10 year old. Just be yourself!!! Just talk to people. You’ll connect. In our natural state, we are entertaining and fun and attract naturally. I don’t see many boring kids. But as we get older, especially after we get our first real job, we systematically bury our color.
